About us
From our office in Gölcük we do structural design, ground, infrastructure, cost and construction work in and around Kocaeli; we take on most jobs at the design stage and follow them through to construction.
Who we are
MARFEN Mühendislik is an engineering and consultancy office based in Gölcük. In Kocaeli and the neighboring provinces (Sakarya, Yalova, Bursa and the Asian side of Istanbul), we do design, cost and implementation work for building, infrastructure and agricultural investments.
We usually take a job on at the design stage and, if asked, see it through to the end. When the person who draws the structural design also takes off the quantities, follows the progress payments and answers the questions on site, less information is lost between the design and construction. Because we work in a city that lived through the 1999 Kocaeli earthquake, we put earthquake loads and ground conditions at the very start of the calculation.
The scale of our work changes, but the method hardly does. Whether it is a pedestrian bridge, an industrial building, the performance assessment of a registered historic building or a stream rehabilitation, we first look at the site and the existing documents. We write the calculations so that someone else can follow them, and prepare the drawings in enough detail to be built on site.
For steel structures we do not stop at the calculation report; we also prepare the three-dimensional model, the connection design and the shop drawings. The fabricator can go straight to production with the part lists and erection drawings, without the drawings having to be redone in the workshop.
Our working principles
Regulatory compliance
We prepare designs to the regulations and standards in force. At the start of the job we list the documents the municipality and the building inspection firm will ask for.
Readable calculations
The assumptions, loads and calculation steps are written in the report. The client or the inspection firm should not have to ask where a result came from.
Schedule
We draw up the work schedule together at the start. If a delay becomes likely, we tell you early, along with the reason, rather than on the last day.
Interdisciplinary work
Throughout the design we work on the same drawing sheets as the other offices involved, so the architectural, structural, geotechnical and MEP designs do not clash.
Our fields of work
Steel structures and fabrication drawings
Industrial buildings, pedestrian bridges, awnings and canopies, platforms and stairs. Structural calculations, three-dimensional model, connection design and shop drawings.
Connection analysis
We check column bases, moment connections and truss joints with finite element-based connection analysis, and report the stresses in plates, welds and bolts.
Seismic performance assessment
As-built surveys, material testing programs and performance analysis for existing buildings, including registered historic buildings. Retrofitting design where needed.
Geotechnics, ground improvement and shoring
Foundation system selection, liquefaction assessment, ground improvement with deep soil mixing (DSM) and jet grouting, slope stability, shoring and excavation planning.
Hydraulic structures and civil engineering structures
Hydrological, hydraulic and structural calculations for stream rehabilitation, U-channels and box culverts, water tanks and pumping structures.
Reinforced concrete structures
Structural design for residential, hotel and factory buildings; formwork-falsework and retaining wall calculations where needed.

Listening to your needs
We talk through the purpose of the project, its location, the documents you have and the schedule.
Site visit and data
We carry out an on-site inspection and collect inputs such as the architectural design, the geotechnical investigation and the permit status.
Quote and work schedule
The scope, the documents to be delivered and the timelines are set out in a written quote.
Design and checking
Once the calculations and drawings are finished, and before delivery, we check the file once more from the beginning, from the input data through to the drawing sheets.
Approval and construction
We make the corrections requested during the approval process and answer the questions that come from the site.

- Contractors: Construction firms looking for permit and construction drawings, quantity take-offs, progress payments and site support.
- Steel fabricators and contractors: Fabrication firms that need three-dimensional models, connection design, shop drawings and material lists.
- Architectural offices: Architects looking for structural and foundation design and for calculation report support at the permit stage.
- Industrial companies: Production and storage buildings, steel and precast buildings, in-plant infrastructure.
- Public institutions: Infrastructure and hydraulic structure projects, ground improvement, seismic performance of existing buildings, pre-tender cost estimates and final accounts.
- Agricultural producers: Agricultural buildings such as barns, storage buildings and processing facilities, and grant application projects.
In grant applications, the decision is made by the Agriculture and Rural Development Support Institution (TKDK). Geotechnical investigation reports are prepared by authorized organizations and approved by the relevant authority. These tasks are not within our authority; we prepare the calculations, designs and files that fall to us.
